Alan Frost is Director of Masdar City. He is responsible for the development of this low-carbon city that is an emerging global centre of renewable energy and clean technology. In his role, Alan is responsible for managing the organisational structure; overseeing the master planning of the city, including the design of the utilities and infrastructure – one of the most complex, integrated supply-and-demand networks in the world; and enabling the city as a dynamic hub for growth, innovation and creativity in the cleantech and renewable energy field. A 28-year engineering and real estate development professional who has worked in Australia, the United Kingdom, Asia and North America, Alan brings extensive experience as the senior manager accountable for successfully developing a range of innovative multimillion- and multibillion-dollar projects from inception to completion. Before assuming his current position, Alan was Deputy Director of the Real Estate Strategy & Business Development Division at Masdar City, where in this senior management role, he was responsible for real estate strategy, delivery, sustainability and urban planning. He joined Masdar City from Babcock & Brown in Sydney, where he was a Real Estate Executive in the Australian Property Banking business, responsible for commercial and industrial business investment and major residential, leisure, retail and commercial development projects, such as a US$1 billion mixed-use project in Perth, a US$500 million mixed-used development in Chatswood, Australia, and a US$350 million residential development at Sydney Harbour – all of which were developed with joint venture partners. Prior to that he was with Lend Lease Corporation, Australia’s leading developer and one of the world’s largest, holding successive roles – lastly as Executive Vice President at Lend Lease Capital & Real Estate Services in New York, where he was responsible for projects such as the more than US$500 million residential, commercial, retail and cruise terminal development at San Francisco Pier. Other roles included Executive Vice President at Lend Lease Actus in California, where he helped the company become the industry leader in its sector; Development Director at Lend Lease, Asia in Singapore; and Project Director at Lend Lease Development, Sydney. He is a Member of the Institution of Engineers, Australia; a Certified Practicing Engineer, Australia; and a Member of the Institution Engineers Civil College in Sydney. Alan earned a B.Eng. from the University of Sydney and an EMBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, University of New South Wales. |
